Growing Older.

I don't like to think about how old I am.  Even worse, I don't like thinking about how old the kids are all getting.

In all honesty, though, I look forward to growing older.  I look forward to seeing these children grow hopefully into mature, productive adults.  I look forward to the future.

I don't want it to go by any faster than it already is, but I do look forward to it, nonetheless.

MR.FF is not in the same boat on this topic.  Sure he can see that life will be nice together, but he's not ready for the kids to be older.  Onion is entering 8th grade, Burger is entering 3rd...Mr.FF is not handling it gracefully.  He's already panicked for Onion to be in high school NEXT YEAR.

I have those moments as well.  My buggy girl is in 5th grade this year.  Our schools have elementary k-4, Intermediate 5-6, Middle School 7-8, then on to the High School for 9-12.  Last school year was the last school year that Buggy and Bubba will ever be in the same school together until they reach the High School.

Yes, that makes my heart sink a little.

BUT....then I think about taking one day at a time, we have still many years of kids in our houses.  I truly look forward to the day they are grown.  On their own, making a life for themselves...eventually meeting their partners in life, marrying and having families.  That is what life is, a full circle, I for one can't wait to watch it all unfold.

I am more than THRILLED to have found Mr.FF.  He is someone that only HELPS the future for me look bright.  With him and I together, I know that no matter what comes along we will rock out.

You chimed in and now I'm gonna ring my own bell.

Last post I posed a question to all of you, thanks to those who chimed in.

Here was the question..."Is paying your kids for As and Bs the same as buying them a toy when they behave out in public?"

My stance?  They are the same thing.
Mr.FF's?  They are not the same thing.

We started a semi-debate on this topic...but we never did finish it...I offered him the opportunity to guest blog here to state his "facts" but that hasn't happened...sooooo

Therefore, I am going to assume (ass u me) that I am right.

Yep. Done and Done.
;)

There were some good thoughts in the comments....and I can see your points...like "getting good grades is the child's job, and in a job you are paid"...I can see that logic....however my spin puts it like this....It is your job to get good grades NOW so that when you're older you will be prepared to get a good paying job.

Another point (and I think Mr.FF mentioned this as well)...for a child that doesn't NORMALLY get good grades, paying them for when they do get good grades.

I guess, that's an option.

HOWEVER, specifically in his kid's case....they should be getting good grades....ESPECIALLY now that they are in his full custody...and both have improved greatly since being under his care and supervision.  IS that enough to reward them with money?  Maybe, but good grades should be expected, not necessarily rewarded monetarily, IMHO.

Everyone is different and each child is different, I get that...I do not pay for good grades, I do not pay for "chores", to me these are expected of the child...behaving in public?  Expected.

I do think rewarding them for a job well done is COMPLETELY acceptable....a dinner out for example.  A verbal pat on the back, works.  Good grades should be celebrated, most definately, but monetary rewards for doing what they are SUPPOSE to do is not the way I roll.

Besides, I don't have the money to spare.

Now, Mr.FF has deemed this blog one-sided...I agreed and did a little "it's my blog, i'll blog what I want to" dance...

EXCEPT, he always has good points and I value his opinion and thoughts....so...Mr.FF, chime in lover.  Anytime.

Chime in...

Is paying your kids for As and Bs the same as buying them a toy when they behave out in public?

Chime in...this requires TOTAL participation on your part...

Loooser.

*stares at blank page*

*curser blinks in rhythm to Loser*

I have things to say.
I do.  I really do.
Now I have that song stuck in my head.  *taps foot*

I hate how DIFFERENT my kids are around Ex#2.  He's bought them clothes for his house and only his house.  They are walking Old Navy ads.
Not that there is anything wrong with Old Navy.
I like Old Navy.  It just rubs me raw because of how materialistic he has always been.

Before we were married, he'd wear a fake wedding ring. Just cause he liked to "look" married. While I was pregnant with Bubba he would say, "My kid won't wear Walmart clothes." When we bought our house he complained it wasn't "showy enough, not big enough, not fancy enough". Every few years he'd tire of his car and want something bigger and better. It's daunting to "keep up with the Jones' in his head".

I find myself fighting to teach the kids that material things do not equal love, material things do not define you as a good person, etc.   That's hard with a 10 year old and an almost 7 year old.

Wearing name brand clothes, fake wedding rings, and driving fancy cars does NOT make you who you are,  it's a fake way to present yourself to the world. Make them THINK you're all that, but after a few times being around that, you find who they really are and that is where the true person emerges.

One day, I hope my children see that, know that and aspire to be better than the labels they wear, the fakeness that others present and better than what kind of car they drive.

Let's break it down.

*Does a busy dance*

The last report cards:  Both kids did GREAT.  As and Bs.  Awesomeness.
Our next ones will be on their way at the end of this month.

Funny story.  Kids and I were driving in the mini-mom-mobile.  We were talking about their grades.  Bubba got a B in "language".  I was talking out loud about what kind of homework comes home for "language" and wondering what he's missing to get a B.  Not that a B is bad, just trying to figure out how to make that B an A.  (It was his only B).

He looked at me with his biggest most beautiful blue eyes and said, "Mom, I haven't used any bad language...why did I get a B?"

Buhahah.  Buggy and I had a great laugh about that one.

Parent/Teacher/Student Conferences.
Buggy is doing great, awesome to have in class, very helpful and eager to learn.  *high fives my 4th grader*
She still struggles with remembering to bring home her student planner...and in my opinion keeping her stuff neat and tidy...crosses over into her room and hygiene as well.

Bubba academically is doing very well.  Right where he should be if not a little beyond.  He's still having issues with blurting out the answer in class and even though the answer is right he isn't raising his hand or allowing other students to shine.  He's very concerned with everyone else's business and has to be in control when it comes to group activities.  *whistles*  I think I might know where the control issue comes from....*whistles*.  NO PRINCIPAL CALLS TO DATE THIS SCHOOL YEAR.  For that, we are very very proud!!

Counseling:
Kids are still going.  Buggy loves it, Bubba is indifferent.  I think he likes it, but he can't SAAAYY he likes it.  *shakes head* Boys.
We are hoping to drop them both down to one visit a month.  We being the counselor and my pocketbook me.

That's that and that's that....I am very proud of the kids and their schooling so far this year. :)

How does Homer say it??? *doooh*

I was meaning to call him to talk about Bubba.

I ran into him at the school picking up our daughter when I was there picking up the Hellion.

"What are you doing here?" He said.

"Picking up Bubba, he's in trouble again."

"Oh, boys will be boys."  He snickered as our little angel daughter's face appeared in the hall.

"I am going to talk with Bugs about it this weekend, I will call you because you need to know what is going on as well."  I sighed.

Ah, but time went on and I didn't call.

*DOOOH*

I was (am) on the roller coaster in my mind.

Up and down, around the twists and turns from thinking something TERRIBLE has happened to Bubba, back down the ride with my heart in my throat to this is just playground talk and around again.

The counseling appointment last week was just informational.  I believe the "real" work and true test will be on the next FEW appointments that she sees Bubba alone.

"Hi, I need to have some of your time to discuss what is going on with Bubba."  He sighed.

"Shit. Yes, I have been meaning to call you.  I have no excuse for not calling."

"Yeah, this is much more serious than I had thought.  If Bubba is being exposed to something than it could very well be happening to our daughter too."

"Yes, I know."  I choked out.

He was reasonable on the phone.  Calm, but concerned.
Basically we are getting Buggy into the counselor too, just to be safe.

All of it really has me stressed and concerned and scared.

The "what ifs" are drowning me.

BUT I AM trying to keep my head above water and trying to take the "right" steps to getting this resolved.

One on One, I'm better.

I just am much better when there's just one...

There are so many times that I think, MAN! I rock this mom business...when there is only one of them.

When there are two, I feel more like I am a referee than a participant in their lives. Buggy knows how to push Bubba's buttons and Bubba, well, he's a handful and even more so when his sister is around.

When we were in Arizona my mom and I were sitting outside talking. She had just finished off a half bottle of wine and started in about my kids. Bubba's behavior, Buggy's weight, she went on and on about their "issues". She babbled about her concerns for an hour.

I like hearing advise about what I could be doing better, about things that others observe good and bad. However, after an hour and a half bottle of wine later (her drinking, not mine...and now that I think of it, maybe I should have had a drink too maybe then I could have had a better rebuttal.) I had heard enough.

I looked at her with tears in my eyes and said, "Mom, I hear you, and I appreciate your concerns, but I can't sit here and listen anymore. If you have suggestions as to how I could improve I am willing to listen, however, all you've done is babble about what you see as wrong. You have no constructive criticism, you have no tips on how I can be better."

"I know, honey, hell, look I wasn't and still am not the best mother in the world, but I just see things and want you to be aware." She said.

"Oh, well, thank you. I am aware. What I am not aware of is how to correct the situation."

"Yeah, me either." She sighed.

I filed most of the conversation in my whatever file, but one thing stung enough to still be on my mind since returning.

She said, "I see you repeating my, for lack of a better word, mistakes."

*gulp*

I strive to be better, not the best, not perfect, but BETTER than what I felt my parents were in my life.

Growing up, from what I remember and have been told, I was the "perfect" child, but that is in comparison to my brother who had and still has tons of issues and lack of good judgement.

The reason I was "good" was because it was EXPECTED of me, I constantly took the backseat, hands folded in my angelic way on my lap. So much of my Mom's time was devoted to putting out the fires my brother created. I was praised for being good, he was punished for being naughty.

My good behavior got me (little) attention, but the negative attention (much more) my brother "needed" put me on the back burner. I did as I was told, I did what would please others, hoping that if I did enough I would also get the attention.

MY mom sees this same pattern happening with Buggy and Bubba. I have to say, she just might be right AND THAT HURTS.

*bigger gulp*

After returning home, I talked to Buggy about the attention she gets and/or doesn't get. I told her I miss her and want to have more time with her. I apologized for the time that Bubba sucks away from us and that I want to do something to change that.

So far, all I've come up with is a later bedtime.

Buggy and I walk Bubba to bed, tuck his punk ass in and then "pretend" to send Buggy to bed as well. If we don't pretend he will ruin our time throwing a fit until she is in bed. We walk into her room, turn on her radio, make loud good night kisses, shut off the light and tip-toe out to the living room.

She is loving the sneakiness of it all, which isn't the message I want her to get, but we have enjoyed at least an extra half hour a night together, just her and I. She chooses what we do. Watch TV, play Wii, read, whatever she wants.

Tomorrow, we are dropping Bubba off at Capt'n Cancel's (HOPEFULLY) and heading to a Brownies trip together...we are pretty excited about it.

Small steps, I know, but hopefully they are big enough in her eyes for her to know I care.

Buggy

This being a mom to two kids...is a lot harder than I would have expected at times.

Things people will say hidden behind anonymity.

Friday night I get home from work with the kids. I run over to the mailbox in the rain and pull out the mail.

Junk mail as usual, except for on envelope addressed to "Stacie", no last name, no return address.

That's strange I thought.

I carry all of our stuff inside, overly curious about who has sent me mail. I put down the armloads of backpacks and tear open the envelope.

The handwriting is not familiar, I unfold the brown construction like paper and start to read.

What are you teaching your children by jumping from man to man so quickly?

My heart jumps into my throat.

There are certain things they shouldn't see or know about. Your daughter will grow up to have multiple failed marriages and your son will grow up thinking his mother was a whore.

I stand there, stunned. I sat the letter down and walk away, my hands trembling, tears building up in my eyes. I take a deep breath, my mind racing as to WHO could have sent this. WHO knows where I live, who is THIS invested in my life, WHO would care so deeply to send this yet not sign their name?

The WHO doesn't really matter, I guess. What I'd like to say to this person is the following.

What I am teaching my children is how to pick themselves up, even when the choices they've made in their lives cause pain to themselves or others, life goes on. We all make mistakes, it's how we handle those mistakes that defines us.

What I am teaching my children with this new relationship, though you might think too soon, is what a loving relationship looks like, what a responsible man looks like and that if you love someone you respect them, you do nice things for them. Love DOESN'T look like the relationship they've seen and known for their years of life.

As far as my daughter's future marital bliss or otherwise, when she is an adult and her and I have a conversation about the mistakes I've made, things I wished were different, things I feel I've had no control over and things I've had control over, she will see and know that she also has choices. I will support my daughter in any of her endeavors whether they work out or not, I will support her decisions. I will support her through the celebrations and the hard times. To predict her failure is premature.

My son's opinion of me as he grows will not be, "my mom is a whore or even WAS a whore"- the definition of whore according to the dictionary is "a woman who engages in promiscuous sexual intercourse, usually for money; prostitute;" and though by YOUR standards I've moved on quickly I have not, nor have I ever been paid money for sexual intercourse. So your theory on that is irrelevant.

What I am teaching my son is that there are men out there that live up to their word, that don't have to go through life with an alcoholic drink in their hand. What I am teaching my son is that there are other ways to be as a man, no one will replace his father, but there can be GOOD male role models in his life and right now I have full control over who those role models will be on our side of life.

What I am teaching my children is to be kind to others, to speak nicely of others, to respect other's opinions even if they don't agree, and to be happy children who grow into happy adults, despite what they have gone through in their lives. What I am teaching them is that being a bitter unhappy person is a choice, not a lifestyle.

So though I thank you for your concern and respect that everyone has an opinion, until you are living in my shoes, until you see what I do or not do according to your standards then you have no right to judge and do so so cowardly. If you have legitimate concern for my children's well being, please come to me as an adult, until then get a life of your own and stay out of mine.

Found this quote that I thought fitting:

"We cannot control the evil tongues of others; but a good life enables us to disregard them." -Cato the Elder

Tis the season...????

So Thanksgiving weekend I went to see my best friend down in the St. Louis area.

Saturday night we took the kids bowling, on our way home we drove through this "square". I say "square" cause it's what it reminded me of, except it was a circle.

Whatever.

In the middle of the circle was a beautiful tree, Kimmy Sue, decided we should take a drive around it five times a few times. On round two, I see the Santa house, and low and behold, SANTA IS IN.

november2009 174

"SAAAANNNNTTTTAAAA" I yelled!

Elf Movie Pictures, Images and Photos

The kids start chanting, I continue my Santa screaming, Kimmy did a few more trips around the circle.

"Let's stop!" I exclaim to the cheering kids in the back of the van.

Stop we did.

The windows were carefully decorated, the Christmas spirit whistling through the air.

november2009 171

The An__ues were on display...

november2009 172

The sleigh is waxed and ready for snow...

november2009 186

The girls were feeling Sassy, waiting for their turn to sit on the fat jolly man's lap.

Each one, giggling with pure joy of the season.

Sassy girls

First sugarplum is B...

november2009 181
The joy in Santa's eyes spills over as B tells him she would like a DSi this year. He beamed when he handed her a candy cane.

Next up - KK.

november2009 183

Santa chuckled shaking his belly like bowlful of jelly as KK asked for the same thing her sister wanted, a DSi.

He lovingly smiled as she shook her head answering "YES, I have been a good girl"

Then it is my Buggy girl's turn, almost the same height as Santa, she plops down on his knee.

"How about you little girl? What would you like this Christmas?" the rosey cheek Santa asked.
Santa uhhhh

Her list went on...

and on....

Santa, is clearly in shock at the number of items on her list and how she rattles them off soo fluently. He anxiously shovs a candy cane into her hand and looks over at the boy with a sour face.

"Hello young man, what is YOUR name?"

Not answering Bubs hops up on the red suited man's knee.

"What would YOU like for Christmas this year?"

"EVERYTHING." Bubba states proudly.

"Everything???" Santa looks at Bubs with a Reindeer in head lights look.

"YEP, EVERYTHING..."

"Do you like Transformers? GI JOE?" Santa searched and searched his memory for toys made in his workshop.

"I like ANYTHING to do with killing..."

*crickets*

november2009 185

*still in shock*

*WTF???*

From my greedy, loves killing lovely family to yours, I hope your season is bright...We'll be on the therapy couch if you need us.

Can't buy Love

Click the button to check out Mommy from the Midwest and other participating in Totally Ticks me off Tuesday

I love my children.

I don't need to show my love in the form of material things. Sure it's nice to buy them things, but it's not what they will remember when they are older. (At least it's not what I want them to remember) I don't want them to equate "love" with what they were bought.

Ex#2 just does not get this concept.

It's not entirely his fault, his mom is the source of his behavior. As a child, he remembers getting EVERYTHING he asked for and maybe didn't ask for. When he talks about his childhood it's all revolving around the things he had. In fact, he's still very into the materialistic things now as an adult.

Anyways.

Ex#2 has the kids every other weekend. Each time they come home they have something new that he has bought them. A new toy, or new shoes (which at least is practical and I do appreciate it).

Buggy was sitting at the table this morning and she offers up this lil tidbit:

"(Ex#2's name) said he is going to get me something more for my birthday because the necklaces that he bought just weren't ENOUGH for a birthday present."

me: *blink blink*

"OH? That's nice honey."

It's THAT mentality that just ticks me off!!

"Well, the necklaces were nice enough honey. It's really the thought that counts and the fact that you were surrounded by your friends and family that love you. It's not about what he bought, didn't buy or otherwise."

Now she's just blinking at me.

*crickets*

It is NOT about what you have; it's about who you are!!

"Well, if that is what he wants to do babe, then that is nice of him."

*****
After his weekend with the kids I got an email from him that let me know that the kids showered.

*looks around*

I responded with, "OK, thanks."

To which he replied back with, "oh and I bought them shoes."

Are you serious?

*works on father of the year award/metal*

My email back should read:
"Hey. Got the kids up for school this morning, dressed them, fed them breakfast, loaded them and their backpacks into the van, drove them to school and dropped them off. *shew* Tonight I will pick them up, get homework done WHILE I cook dinner. Once the dinner mess is cleaned up I will get their jammies on, read library books, and tuck them in."

Rinse, lather and repeat for next day.

Not me Monday

I did NOT post twice today.

****

I did not lose my ever loving mind when Bubba called me a B*tch this weekend.
I did not put soap in his mouth.
I did not find it funny that this five year old then screamed he was going to live with his father.
I did not stop him from packing. (oh wait, that one's true, I let him pack)
I can not believe I didn't kill the boy.

****

I did not email Bubba's teacher warning her about the "three amigos".
I did not get an email back saying she's already noticed some issues.
I did not read her email and shake my head at the comment "He is such a character and very intuitive."
I did not giggle and think, "ha, intuitive? More like a calculated manipulative little shit".

****

I did not threaten my children a million times this weekend only to have them continue their behavior anyway.
I did not want to just close my door and nap away the weekend.
I did not do a dance when it was bed time (= quiet time) last night.

****

I have NOT changed my mind a million times on the renting vs buying battle.
I have NOT been blessed with the bestest realtor ever and I love her.
I have NOT dreamt night after night about the possibilities and obstacles.
I have NOT gone over every scenario a million times in my head and with anyone that will listen.

Heard...

Tie Dyes 2009

Listening to the Lady Gaga's song Poker Face, Buggy proudly announces that she knows what the Disco Stick reference means.

Her: I know what that means, do you? (asking her brother)
Him: Does it mean something dirty, like a dirty word?
Her: *giggle* yes.

My ears perked up.
Me: What does it mean Buggy and who told YOU?
Her: Kayla (the dirty little no good older girl at daycare)
Me: Oh really? What does it mean and I think you shouldn't hang out with Kayla anymore.

*kicks self, now Buggy is too scared to tell me what she heard it meant*

-note to self, find out FIRST before you throw friends off the building.

*******
Bubba, sitting on my lap at the beach.

He reaches down and gently caresses my breast.

ME- Bubs, stop that.
Him- But I like them Mommy.
ME- *shaking head* Yes, I understand that, but they are Mommy's breast and are not there for you to touch. Please keep your hands to yourself.
Him- Why do girls have such big boobies, Mom?
Me- *sigh* Cause God made them that way.

********
Bubba again, obsessed this kid is.

He reaches down and gently caresses my breast.
ME- Bubs. What did I say about doing that to Mommy?
Bubs- What?
Me- That is Mommy's breast and not for your touchiness.
Bubs- *very loudly* BREAST WHAT IS BREAST? IS THAT YOUR BOOBS?
Me- *sigh* yes, dude, please keep your hands to yourself.

*********
Sitting at my cousins, Buggy and my cousin's daughter are playing the Wii. Bubba is sitting on the couch behind the girls. He looks over to me and says...

Him- She's smoking hot in those jeans (referring to my cousin's 11 year old daughter)
Me - What?
Him - *repeats above*
Me- *sigh* Dude. Keep those thoughts to yourself.

********
I seriously fear this boy's sexually active age...

Does it have to be said?

This is for family members or soon to be ex family members..."friends" who might be reading this blog and reporting back to soon to be ex-hubby.

If you misconstrued this post as me "complaining" about being a single mother, you are WRONG.

Though complaining is one of my finer tuned techniques, the fact that I am a single mother BY CHOICE is not a complaint of mine.

It's crazy, hectic and SOMETIMES overwhelming, but if you KNOW ME...and I mean really know me, that is how I prefer my life.

I can say that I am MUCH happier at this point and will continue to expound my happiness as time goes by...as any mother knows a happy mommy equals happy children.

When the kids are not with me I don't know who I am or what to do with myself. I have to PHYSICALLY force myself to leave the couch and shower...I do know that it will get easier and more routine as time moves forward.

Therefore, if you don't know me or think you know me through a venting blog, you have NO idea...and don't know the half of me...hell not even a quarter of me and what I am about.

Things kids say

Sometimes my kids come up with some doozies...

Last night as Bubba was climbing on the counter (as always) headed straight for the cabinet with all the snacks he says to me,

"I don't ever want to live in Florida."

me- "um, ok, dude, but why, it's so pretty there."

him - "cause people talk like this *jibber jibber*"

I laughed so hard and said, "what in foreign languages?"

"yeah," he said, "it's really fast and sounds like *jibber jibber*"

The *jibber jibber* impersonation is hard to explain what it sounded like, but it was very funny. I did tell him that not everyone spoke like that and there are foreign languages spoken here in our home too. He didn't believe me.

That was one really interesting thing to me and apparently to Bubs too. The diversity of people that were visiting Disney, it was a thousand (over exaggerate much?) different cultures all marveling this wonderful empire that is Disney World.

No matter what language people speak, it all read the same when you walk into any of the parks at Disney. It is magical, it is MAGICAL. It's a place that even the adults can feel like kids. Or maybe it was just me, but I had a hard time controlling my excitement and most of the time I didn't even TRY to control it. I would literally pull Buggy's hand around to see what we could see. I would practically RUN to get in line to see another character.

The grin on my face was REAL. The grins on the kid's faces were priceless and lifted my adult issue ridden heart and brain.

I LOVED IT. I LOVED EVERY MINUTE OF IT.

Sure there were fits. Sure there were tired kids. Lines were long, days were long, it was worth every body thrown on the floor, every smart ass remark.

I took, um, 700 pictures. I know, excessive, but I wanted to capture every moment I could. Therefore you see, the farthest I have gotten is to get all of those pictures on my computer at home...(which does me no good at work). I promise to share more when I have pictures to go with the words.
